Operation of digital measuring instruments

The operation of digital measuring instruments is based on signal conversion. Normally, these digital instruments first transform a physical signal into an analogue signal and then an analogue signal into a digital signal. In this way, measurements are carried out on the physical, with the precision offered by the digital.

The digitisation of the signal allows extremely accurate measurements. The values obtained are displayed directly on the digital display of the instrument, eliminating the need to interpret the position of a needle on a scale, as is the case with analogue devices. This digital representation makes the measurements easier to read and minimises the margin of error associated with human interpretation.

In addition, many digital measuring instruments are equipped with additional functions, such as the ability to store data, perform automatic calculations and connect to other devices for data transfer and analysis, alarm configuration or parameter setting from the instrument itself via its keypad.
